TODAY I DID A THING

💥Today I did a thing!💥

I TYPED THE END! 🙌

But see, here’s the thing: I’m participating in NaNoWriMo. The goal is to write a novel in a month. To be a “winner” you must write a total of 50,000 words in the month of November. 

.

I’m 13 days in. I just typed THE END. With a total of 19,162 words. Not even halfway to “winning” NaNo. But, of course, I have a whole lot more work to do. And nearly all of those 19,000 words need to be rewritten.

As I told friends: I feel like I just dropped a clump of clay onto the table in the shape of 💩! (truly my shitty first draft)

But see, right after I finished I thought: I need more words (because NaNo), even though my gut told me that’s not my next step. So I pumped the brakes. This isn’t about NaNo. Or winning NaNo. It’s about doing the necessary work. It’s about honoring my process. And so that’s what I’ll do. I’ll read it through. I’ll take notes. I’ll start to think about how I need to shape the 💩.
