FAQs about Coaching and Consultation
-
What is the difference between coaching and consultation?
Coaching is an ongoing. Clients hold a specific day and time on my calendar, and meet with me either weekly, or every-other week. A consultation is a one-time booking (though you’re welcome to rebook as many times as you like).

What does coaching look like?
Coaching looks different for each person, as it’s personalized to each writer’s needs/goals. Clients book 4 meetings at a time (1 session) and keep that spot on my coaching calendar for as long as they want to continue coaching. For some, coaching is regular Zoom calls for accountability and support. For others, it’s a review of writing as well as a Zoom call to discuss. At the heart of it, the work is based on the personal goals of each writer.

What does a consultation look like?
While some consultations are a scheduled Zoom call to discuss writing for kids and teens and the publishing process, most include a manuscript review. Typically I review one picture book manuscript, or up to 10 pages of a novel, but I’m also open to requests to look at more (ie: 3 picture books, a manuscript and a query letter, or the first 30 pages of a novel). Each consultation (via Zoom) is recorded and the replay of the meeting is available to view for 30 days.

Do you provide written feedback?
Not typically, but I can. Over years of providing both written or conversational feedback, I find that a lot more can be accomplished with conversation in a lot less time. Written feedback could be provided upon request, but there would be an added fee. (One exception: full novel reviews. See next question.)
-
Do you offer full novel reviews?
Yes, but only when my schedule allows, which is usually only a couple of manuscripts per year. With a full review I provide in-line comments, an editorial letter, and a Zoom call.

How much does coaching/consulting cost?
This varies based on what I am reviewing and the length of our Zoom. A typical manuscript consultation (pb or 10 page plus 30-minute Zoom) is $95, and typical coaching session (4 meetings with page review plus 30-minute Zoom) is $280. Former students who complete my Write for Kids course receive a discount.
